Myths, Facts, and Other Stories –
Perimenopause and Menopause
As women, we grew up hearing the so-called dreaded word “menopause”. What many of us never learned about is perimenopause, the transition women go through before they even hit menopause!
The fourth and last in the 2023 Series Aging with Grace and Wellness of the Mancos Wellness Talks, “Myths, Facts, and Other Stories – Perimenopause and Menopause” focuses on transitions in women’s bodies as we age.
As women, we grew up hearing the so-called dreaded word “menopause”. What many of us never learned about is perimenopause, the transition women go through before they even hit menopause!
Perimenopause usually begins when a woman is in her mid-40s (although it can happen even earlier), and can last several years. During this time, women experience a variety of physical and emotional changes, as their bodies prepare for the end of menstruation.
Some of the most common symptoms of perimenopause include:
• Irregular periods
• Hot flashes
• Night sweats
• Brain fog
• Trouble sleeping
• Mood swings
• Vaginal dryness
• Decreased sex drive
• Weight gain
• Thinning hair
• Dry skin
While perimenopause can be a challenging time for women, it is a natural part of aging; there are many things that women can do to manage the symptoms of perimenopause, such as eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep.
Diana Toms will be speaking on the natural transitions in a woman’s life and explaining away some of the myths surrounding these times. Her talk will be on Wednesday, October 18th at 6pm at the Mancos Public Library.
This is a great opportunity for women to learn more about perimenopause and how to manage the symptoms. It is also a good opportunity to ask questions and get support from other women who are going through the same thing.
The Mancos Wellness Talks are hosted by Cloud Goddess Enterprises and Mancos Public Library.
As always, The Mancos Wellness Talks are free and open to the public!
